About the Meeting:

Your practice is governed by a complex set of federal and state laws, as well as contractual obligations.  David M. Aafedt, a shareholder and board member with the law firm of Winthrop & Weinstine, P.A., of Minneapolis, is well known to our membership.  David will present on critical legal issues facing dentists and specialists in 2018 and beyond.  David will provide an update on third-party and public program payer audits; recent material developments before the Minnesota Board of Dentistry; the practical and legal issues facing practices as a result of ever-present cybersecurity threats, including how to respond when the inevitable breach occurs; and the opioid crisis and the investigative and enforcement trends by the Board and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).

The event will be hosted at the Southview Country Club in West St. Paul.

We will have heavy hors-d’oeuvres and a cash bar. There will be time to network at the beginning of the event. You won’t want to miss this one!

Speaker:

David M. Aafedt, Esq. – David is a shareholder and board member with the law firm of Winthrop & Weinstine’s Health Law and Regulatory practice groups.  David served as an Assistant Attorney General with the Minnesota Attorney General’s office until 2003, when he joined Winthrop & Weinstine, P.A.  David represents dentists, specialists and other healthcare providers in a variety of capacities, including litigation and enforcement proceedings, healthcare licensing board investigations, compliance and regulatory matters, as well as federal, state, and private payer billing audits and investigations.  David also serves as outside general counsel to hundreds of dental and health care professionals and practice groups, where he advises them on, among other issues, the purchase or sale of a medical or dental practice or business; general corporate governance, management, and employment issues; public and private payer reimbursement issues; fraud, waste and abuse, anti-kickback and Stark; credentialing, privileging, and peer review processes; state and federal privacy laws, including data breaches.  He also routinely works with health care providers and practice groups to conduct internal compliance investigations in an effort to identify potential compliance risks and ensure that appropriate procedures and training are in place moving forward.  David also serves as an Assistant Adjunct Professor at the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry, where he teaches Current Legal Issues for the New Dentist to the Fourth Year Dental Students.
